Redoubt Fortress, Eastbourne BN22 7AQ. Sunday 19 May.
The Redoubt Fortress is part of Heritage Eastbourne and is a 200yr old Georgian Fortress built to defend against Nasty Naps Navy. It continued as a working fortress for many years and used during World Wars 1 and 2 by the Military Police, Home Guard and Canadian Forces. See Model Below:
There is a tour of about 1 1/2hrs around the fortress which explains all the usage over the 200yrs including Gun Platforms, Barracks, and Drop Bridge unique to this fortress. (Cost £2-£3 DONATION).
The ride will meet at 9.15 at The Pheasant at Buckland Pub ( RH3 7BG ) to leave at 9.45am. The route will be along the A25 to Godstone then down the A22 to Eastbourne, approx distance of 55ml and 1 1/2hrs.
The Tour is booked for 12noon and there is a cafe on site so it will give us time for coffee and comfort break before the tour.
The fortress has hard standing for parking and is on the sea front and there is another Pavilion Cafe adjacent to the Fortress for lunch. (Optional).
Hope to see lots of you on 19th May,
