It’s with much sorrow that we announce the passing of Steve ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson on Sunday 30th January.  Although Hutch was no longer a current member of the Chapter, he was a very active member before his retirement and move back home to North Yorkshire.  He organised many great day rideouts and weekends away in the U.K., Europe, and even the USA!

The funeral is at 12:00 Thursday, 17/01/2019 at the Kirkleatham Memorial Park & Crematorium, Fishponds Rd, Yearby, TF11 8HH.

At a time of much change in the Chapter Hutch put his name forward, along with Steve Whitmore and Bill Jones, in the first democratic election of the Chapter Director taking us forward as a truly independent Harley Davidson Chapter.  The membership wisely chose Steve, who in turn appointed Hutch and Bill as his Assistant Directors.  This triumvirate of age, experience, knowledge, and know how, guided the Chapter in its first steps as an independent club that embraced the Harley/HOG ethos, but in a way of self determination to become the unique and friendly Chapter it is today!

Hutch suffered a marital breakdown, and with the global economic changes his career as  a Technical Writer became difficult which saw him spending much of his life in Europe.  He eventually met a wonderful lady named Jan who helped turn his life around, they married in a joyous upbeat wedding, and retired to his ‘home’ in Redcar, North Yorkshire.

Sadly Hutch’s health had suffered over the years, probably from his hectic lifestyle crisscrossing the channel for work, and resulting in recent stays in hospital.  This came to a head on 28th December when he was readmitted to hospital, and after 2 days succumbed to Kidney and Liver failure.

His funeral is at 12:00 on Thursday 17th January at the Kirkleatham Crematorium, Yearby, N Yorkshire.  The ceremony will be Harley themed, and is being co-ordinated by Hutch’s brother Graham who, weather permitting, will lead a ride in.  Perhaps in better weather Surrey Chapter would have organised a ride ‘Up North’ to pay our respects.  The Chapter will be represented at the funeral, and any member wishing to attend should contact Bill Jones for details.  In lieu of a wreath or flowers a donation will be made in Hutch’s name to the local Air Ambulance, which is in accord with his family’s wishes.

Sadly the world has one less Gentleman among us, RIP Hutch!”
