Saturday 17th August

This year is the 80th anniversary of D-Day and with his family's consent and help we will meet the Oldest Surviving D-Day Veteran.

Percy Chaffer drove a motorised Bofors gun onto Gold Beach 6th June 1944. He is a recipient of Frances highest Military Honor – Legion D’Honneur and many other medals.

We will meet at Runnymede Pleasure grounds and depart at 10am. We will stop at the Barnes Wallace Memorial on the way and arrive about 10.45. We'll meet Percy Chaffer at the Battle of Britian Bunker where we'll have a guided tour of the Bunker and Plotting room as it was during the Battle of Britain. There will be a charge for entry but depending on numbers I hope to arrange a group discount.

Please make your own way by car if you're no longer a Riding member and embrace this opportunity to meet Britian's Oldest D-Day Veteran.

FYI - Here is a link regarding the Royal Albert Hall 80th Anniversary D- Day Concert.

Spellbinding concert at the Royal Albert Hall for the 80th anniversary of D-Day featured celebrities including Katherine Jenkins and Davina McCall but six former serviceman guests were the real stars (dailymail.co.uk)
