Rideout to Uppark House and gardens, South Harting, near Petersfield, West Sussex, GU31 5QR.

This is a large house built in the 17th century, which sits in the South Downs National Park. It was restored to its former glory after a fire in 1989. Elegant Georgian rooms furnished with grand marble fireplaces and shimmering chandeliers contrast with basement servants’ quarters.

There are underground tunnels and kitchens with gleaming pots and pans, and a 270 year old doll’s house. There are lovely views from strolling around the large grounds and garden, and a family trail.

Meet at Newlands corner, for a 10.30hrs departure. The route will be to the A3, and then down through the Hindhead tunnel to the exit for Liphook. Then it will be onto the B2070 to Petersfield and then the B2146 to the venue. This will be about an hour’s ride through some pleasant countryside.

This is a National Trust site, so members don’t forget your cards.

Unfortunately they do not take group bookings, so that if club members wish to go in (this then includes the café and shop), the cost is £11 pp.

Those riders that do not want to enter the venue, then there is a market in Pertersfield, with enough eating establishments.

See you at the start.
